That smell when they are really getting going is the best :) I'll keep you posted on the garden beds. I've been manually plucking some weeds out of there ever since we planted. My intention was to lay down some of the weed barrier and them some kind of mulch or something to keep weeds out and moisture in. I still may try. Sarah, you are totally right about the tomatos. Our backyard is ridiculous for weeds. This year, we've got tomatoes, okra, peppers, squash, zucchini, and a tiny patch of strawberries.
