Who is this “Bret Phillips” anyway?

Hi, I am Bret Phillips, a musician, web guy, and budding entrepreneur.

By day I offer online marketing for restaurants.

At night, as co-founder of  Hijacking Music, I put on music and art shows and festivals.

What Is Going On Here at BretPhillips.com?

This is my personal website and subject to my personal opinion. Here you will find:

  • Ranting about business, music, web, and more
  • Photos and Videos of places I am at or have been
  • Promotion of anything I might currently be working on or a part of
  • Music I make, record, mix, master, like, and more…
  • Etc., and more…

Think we are on the same level? Contact me on Twitter.

What Do I Know?

Honestly, that is debatable.

I do have a strong background in all things Music and Web related.

What Can I Do For You?

If you are a restaurant with AMAZING food and great atmosphere, but need help online, contact me here.

If you are a musician in or coming to Atlanta, I can help you get your show and or your shit together. Contact Hijacking Music

Why Should You Believe Me?

I’ve been building websites for over 10 years and have dedicated the past few years to learning and testing internet marketing practices, as well as how to use social media and search engine optimization to drive target traffic to these websites.

For the last few years I’ve dedicated my resources to working exclusively with the WordPress platform to develop websites for big corporations and small mom and pop shops around the country.

As a musician, I’ve hand my hands in everything from writing music, recording, promoting, booking, touring, and more at one point or another and enjoy sharing any of the knowledge I’ve picked up that might help others in the future.

High School and College, Getting An Education

During high school I continued to study the internet and technology, taking whatever computer classes available to me at school, and spending countless hours in my parents basement surfing the net. I even went so far as to get a job, specifically to make money so that I could have my own phone line and allow my dial up internet connection to be on 24/7.

In college I studied computer science, and found myself heavily involved with the hardware side of networking. Servers, routers, DNS, switches, layers, and so on. Working full time and going to school full time was a pretty massive time suck, but I made it through and took advantage of my employers offer to pay 75% of my tuition, score!

The Transition Period, From Employee to Employer

After 5 years as the IT department for a CD/DVD Duplication & Fulfillment company,  I was informed that the company was going to be sold(read acquisition details here) and I needed to start thinking about future income opportunities.

I spent a little time seeking employment with new companies, but knew it was time for me to start something of my own.

They say to follow your passion(s), so I’ve been focusing the vast majority of my time building up web related business, as well as building up Hijacking Music as a promotional resource for musicians that I take a liking to.

Miscellaneous Notes

  • I like to record music and have my own recording gear and studio
  • Biking is high on my list of ways to travel around town
  • Volleyball is one of my favorite sports to play
  • Major Tom, is a clown trapped in a dogs body
  • To be swimming is to be living

Thanks for caring, I look forward to hearing from you.
